Please Note: The Following May Contain Spoilers (But I Tried Hard Not To)

Now before I start I’d like to preface this by saying I have a huge amount of respect for John Woo and actually really like most films I’ve seen of his BUT in my honest opinion, he should never have done a Mission Impossible film. It 100% did not fit his style at all and it’s actually extremely difficult to watch.

The overuse of slow motion (John Woo trademark) makes the film seem really over dramatic and that in turn becomes very cringe-worthy. It’s so disappointing too because some of the action sequences, in particular the motorbike chase and the fight between Ethan (Tom Cruise) & Sean (Dougray Scott), were really great but the fact that they were switching between normal time & slow motion made it frustrating to watch. On top of that there were the additions of crazy flips & stunts that didn’t fit the feel of the movie but appeared only to be there for slow-mo visual effect. It made it so I couldn’t fully immerse into any of then actions scenes and instead I found myself laughing at how outrageous it all seemed…..even though it did look a bit pretty. Mission Impossible 2-2My comment to everyone was that the movie would have only been 30 minutes long if they took out all the slow motion.

Now not to be completely negative about the movie, though it’s by far my least favourite of the series, the story as actually really good and the cast is excellent so it was a shame the movie took so much away from those strengths in the final cut.

My Score: 3/10

Watch If You Like: John Woo movies, slow motion and aren’t watching Mission Impossible movies for the action.
