Please Note: The Following May Contain Spoilers (But I Tried Hard Not To)

So I hadn’t seen this movie in a while but as soon as it started, and after having painfully sat through the 2nd film the night before, I internally cheered the name J.J Abrams because it absolutely starts off with a bang and instantly becomes the Mission Impossible action style I have come to love. Not only that, I am a HUGE J.J. fan and his movies always get me straight away with their overall style and feel. But anyway back to the movie itself.

The cast and story-line in this episode are once again extremely strong and have been presented so well on the screen it is hands down, in my opinion, one of the best Mission Impossible films. So along with Tom Cruise as the eternally fantastic (shhhh fan girling) Ethan Hunt, the introduction of Simon Pegg & reappearance of Ving Rhames kick off a brilliant cast. Everyone is just so fitting to the character they play be it the innocent Michelle Monaghan as the unknowing fiancé or the stern & possibly….not possibly…wait is he…I’m so unsure, Laurence Fishbourne as the IMF director. The shining star, however, is of course Philip Seymour Hoffman (sob) who plays a brilliant bad guy, sinister and cold hearted in everything he does.

Did someone mention action? Yep this movie, besides having the J.J. signature action traits all over it, really started off these movies into the action genre. Even though the previous film technically had action in it, I really class #3 as the better action film and much more suited to this series.
It also began the trend of bigger and better stunts that has flowed on through each consecutive film. Don’t get me wrong, the first 2 films had great stunts with dropping into the vault to steal a list from a computer to extreme motorbike chases, however, it was this film where you could tell that they were aiming for new, bigger and more amazing. The big ones this chapter were of course the incredible bridge attack (let’s talk gun fight, a big jump across a hug ass gap and massive explosions)

Mission Impossible 3-2

And also the break in to the skyscraper in Shanghai (bungee stunts, a slide down a lot of glass and then a base jump from a much lower window than expected into traffic). The fast paced extremeness of if keeps you on the edge of your seat and loving every minute of it. As I said before this film was and still is one of my favourites in the series.

My Score: 8.5/10

Watch If You Like: Mission Impossible 1 or you’re a fan of J.J. Abrams action movies…..or of course if you’re Tom Cruise action movie fan like me.
