Please Note: The Following May Contain Spoilers (But I Tried Hard Not To)

When a new movie in an existing series comes out, I like to do this fun thing where I re-watch the entire series to date in preparation for the new one. Mission Impossible 6 is here so I spent 2 evenings after work watching the 5 previous films and decided my ramblings were too good to be kept to myself…..enjoy my musings (and also my first ever blog post) as we head all the way back to the beginning. And before you say anything yes I know there was a TV show first but come on, I had 2 days and 5 movies I couldn’t fit an entire series in as well so shhhh and read on.

This is an extremely fun movie to watch in 2018 because you get to see baby face Tom Cruise taking a VHS to watch a film on a plane…..hello 1996! Beside the fact that they are using old computers and floppy discs throughout, the overall story holds up and genuinely is a good watch. I mean seriously who doesn’t love a good “Red Light! Green Light!” Boom! Explosion! Yesssss! Or Tom Cruise dropping into the high security vault to steal a Noc List. Missions Impossibe 1-2It’s classic spy thriller/action and while many aspects are dated now it’s still a great introduction into what is a really fun movie series.
How about that casting though…because seriously Tom Cruise in this roll has always been so perfect (if you haven’t guessed already yes I’m a fan but quiet you, that’s beside the point). Honorable mention for Ving Rhames just because he’s a really great character and I’m so glad he stays on in the series oh and also a soundtrack by Danny Elfman is always amazing not to mention the classic theme song Dun Dun Dun-Dun Dun Dun….you get the idea. In conclusion, it’s not my favourite of the series (sorry) but it was great in 1996 and as previously mentioned is still a really great watch.

My Score: 7/10

Watch if you like: Any Tom Cruise action movie, you’ll definitely like this. Also if you’re an action/thriller or spy film fan, absolutely check it out.
