Honestly, I have not watched this movie before now because I kept thinking of it as yet another zombie movie. But I finally decided it was time to check it out and damn I’m glad I did! I mean, yes, it’s technically another zombie/infection movie but there is none of this slow moving stumbling zombies who somehow can still catch able bodied uninfected people. This  movie is so fast paced it slaps all of that standard zombie sluggishness away and instead has an infection that rips though people in a matter of seconds and un-dead that can sprint and move as fast as anyone else. Throw all that into an enclosed place such as a train and damn if it isn’t what I have always wanted a zombie movie to be.

Standard disclaimer for anyone choosing to watch after this review, it is a South Korean movie and therefore does have subtitles but not once did I find them in any way distracting from the tone and feel of the film. In fact most of the time I didn’t even realise I was reading text, I was so wrapped up in what was happening that the words we basically just being absorbed as part of the scene. I put this down to some exceptional action scenes that were full of top notch on the edge of your seat thrills. I genuinely found myself yelling at the screen more than once with “MOVE DAMMIT MOVE! Shut the door!! Oh my god!!!”Train to Busan 2

Aside from great action, story and general setting (I mean a zombie outbreak on an enclosed train with no escape… good!) the final great addition is the cast. I’m not just talking the key characters either, I’m talking all extras and people throughout the movie, I mean the movements and range of the infected is just so good and so convincing. The main characters are all so great too, with so many different people each one with a tiny little story that helps you to connect with them and want them to survive……oh right except for that one asshole who, oh man, is just so despicable!! No spoilers but honestly great character but THE WORST!! The shining star, of course, is the young girl Soo-an. She is so amazing with her range of emotions and absolutely holds almost any scene she is in.

Overall as a horror movie I didn’t find it scary in any way but this may be because I don’t scare easily so others may find it is. I do, however, think it is much more of a thriller so as a fan of both genres I am so glad I FINALLY watched it.

My Score: 8/10

Watch If You Like: Any kind of zombie movie….or anything fast paced and thrilling
