You know how you watch movies for a specific purpose like the story is interesting or it’s a comedy and you need a good laugh? Well I sat down to watch this particular movie for one reason only and that was the action and fight scenes. Now that may sound like I was wanting to watch an action movie but nope, I literally wanted to watch this one for the fight scenes specifically. If that sounds like a weird thing to watch a movie for then stop now and check out the trailer and you will completely understand what I’m talking about. And if you’ve ever watched a movie called The Raid, which has some of the best fight/action sequences I’ve ever seen, then when I say that a lot of the same cast is in this film along with a very similar style and execution of the action it will make you understand even more why I wanted to watch this movie.

The choreography, pacing and execution of every action-packed moment was just brilliant and everything I thought I would be seeing based on the trailer. Yes it’s violent, yes it’s crazy and over the top but the final product is just so well done that you can’t help but appreciate how much work went into making something look so incredible on screen.

As for the story well honestly, I spent most of the movie utterly confused about what was going on. Something to do with Triads, a guy had turned traitor, but also killed a lot of people…..oh and there was a little girl that was somehow involved. Yeah, I don’t really know but as I said before that wasn’t why I was ultimately watching the movie. I mean if it had also had a strong story-line and been interesting to watch that would have been a bonus but unfortunately it didn’t. Oh, beside the fact that the majority of the dialogue was in Chinese (subtitles warning for those that need it) there were these random moments that were in English and I had no idea why. Like they weren’t in an English-speaking country, it didn’t make sense. It was just a hey let’s speak English now and oh yeah back to Chinese.Night Comes 2

Look, this movie is what it is, a violent and well executed action film with a really poor story-line. I enjoyed it for what it was and I’m happy that I’ve seen it but unlikely will watch again anytime soon. Check it out for action but not for anything else.

My Score:  4/10

Watch If You Like:  The Raid but don’t expect it to be as good as that.
