mowgli posterThe kid who plays Mowgli is fantastic!

Stars: Rohan Chand, Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch
Director:
Andy Serkis

Synopsis: After the Tiger Shere Khan kills his family, a ‘man-cub’ is taken in by a pack of wolves, a bear & a panther to raise in the jungle as one of their own. Years pass and the tiger once again threatens the now boy, Mowgli’s life as well as the entire wolf pack. He flees to the nearby human village where he learns what it is to be just a boy before realising that the hunter in the village isn’t just there to kill the Tiger. Mowgli must now be neither only man or wolf and stand up against the Tiger & the Hunter to protect the rest of the jungle.

Opinion: Based on the stories by Rudyard Kipling, this film is beautifully told with a wonderful performance by Rohan Chand, as Mowgli as well as a brilliant voice cast (Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale, Benedict Cumberbatch, Andy Serskis, to name a few) for the animals. While the special effects and CGI are a little obvious and annoying at times, it doesn’t affect the overall impact of the film. Full of some very powerful and heart wrenching moments it is an emotional watch at times and really fun and beautiful at others. I also think they have done a wonderful job at completely expressing how this child would react after knowing only one life and then being totally thrown into something new and completely foreign. It’s also quite interesting how after leaving the jungle, there is suddenly much less dialogue in the film, mainly because Mowgli cannot speak or understand the language, but besides being barely noticeable it actually helps you to experience the journey as Mowgli himself is by seeing and doing and just being in awe of the new and different.
With a strong ‘laws of the jungle’ and ‘balances in nature’ messages throughout, it’s genuinely quite thought provoking for certain aspects in normal life and with a beautiful backdrop and emotion filled story, it’s an overall enjoyable watch.

Them Feels Though: Bring your tissues, there were tears. While I honestly didn’t think it was going to get to that point, it was just that damn final sequence that suddenly hit home and forced them out.
