“This is definitely going to end badly”
Stars: Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Chloë Sevigny, Tilda Swinton, Danny Glover, Tom Waits
Director: Jim Jarmusch
Synopsis: The small town of Centreville two local cops, Cliff (Bill Murray) and Ronnie (Adam Driver), find themselves in the middle of a zombie apocalypse as the dead begin the rise from their graves.
Opinion: Well that was an insanely wild viewing experience. This movie is the furthest from dull you could ever imagine and has a fantastic cast that just creates the most incredibly funny and weird movie you could possibly imagine. It’s sort of like Zombieland with the pacing and black humour of Fargo….yeah it’s just that level of umm what that makes it so special.
Everything about this movie is slow from the way people drive, to the delivery of the lines even to the appearance of zombies which doesn’t’ happen until like halfway through the movie. But it’s this slowness that creates really great comedic timing and holds onto the feeling of bizarre and weird through the movie. The characters and script especially work well with this in the sense that everything is just delivered in the most deadpan and unshocked way. Bill Murray and Adam Driver are the best at this and their timing and reactions (or lack thereof) make this such an enjoyable watch. Actually, the entire cast is pretty epic and every single one of them portray the best (and weirdest) set of characters imaginable.
I find myself really not wanting to talk about this movie because watching it without knowing too much about it besides a quick trailer watch made the experience just so much more fun and unexpected. The story itself is nothing special, nothing really unique or different and even the way it’s presented seems to be a weird collaboration of a number of other TV and movies…yet it just works! And it feels new and different and unexpected and enjoyable.
So this is short and sweet and as a final overall opening…….go and watch this! If you like Zombieland or Fargo or Bill Murray or Tilda Swinton or zombie movies in general or weird movies or just like to laugh, then this is the movie for you.
Fun Facts: Look out for the millions of movie references through this because they are there, and they are cool oh and wait for the reveal of Adam Driver’s keyring because that’s the best. Also, I challenge you to not get the theme song stuck in your head for days after watching, it’s great but super catchy and played a whole lot.
