How does one beat a thrilling stunt like scaling the outside of the Burj Khalifa? Well naturally they decide to hold onto the side of a military plane as it takes off and then continue to hold on and try to access a door while in flight. Hello Tom Cruise and his ability to not only do these stunts but have them totally and utterly work with the Ethan Hunt character and the Mission Impossible series. Also…..what a brilliant way to start off Rogue Nation.
I mean yes it turned into the kidnapping of Ethan Hunt, a valiant escape, the shutting down (again) of the IMF which meant the introduction of Alan Hunley (Alec Baldwin who you know is going to be great in any movie) which then led to a trip to the Opera for an explosive performance….see what I did there 😉. And that, my friends, is only the beginning. Continue reading Movie Review: Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (2015)

And then there were 6. Hello Mission Impossible: Fallout! Hands down my #1 favourite Mission Impossible film to date, and yes I dare say it, by far one of the best actions movies I have ever seen. I love love loved this movie so damn much and I have and will continue to tell anyone and everyone that will listen that they need to see it. Pro Tip…..watch Rogue Nation first if you haven’t seen it because they are the first of all the films to directly link to each other. Though, because the way the story goes, you could still watch it as a stand alone film if you had never seen any of the others. I would judge you, of course, for watching something out of sequence and not treating yourself to all the other great ones that are available but each to their own…..just go watch it dammit!! Ghost Protocol. Where do I start with film #4 in the Mission Impossible series? How about that after watching, I determined that it was my favourite in the whole series (Side note…..this opinion changes but I’ll talk about that in a different post). Or what about the fact that the it starts with a prison break and after the way that #3 ended you’re left with a what??? How??? Why is Ethan in prison?? Frame of mind.  Continue reading Movie Review: Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011)

So I hadn’t seen this movie in a while but as soon as it started, and after having painfully sat through the 2nd film the night before, I internally cheered the name J.J Abrams because it absolutely starts off with a bang and instantly becomes the Mission Impossible action style I have come to love. Not only that, I am a HUGE J.J. fan and his movies always get me straight away with their overall style and feel. But anyway back to the movie itself.

Now before I start I’d like to preface this by saying I have a huge amount of respect for John Woo and actually really like most films I’ve seen of his BUT in my honest opinion, he should never have done a Mission Impossible film. It 100% did not fit his style at all and it’s actually extremely difficult to watch. Continue reading Movie Review: Mission Impossible 2 (2000)

When a new movie in an existing series comes out, I like to do this fun thing where I re-watch the entire series to date in preparation for the new one. Mission Impossible 6 is here so I spent 2 evenings after work watching the 5 previous films and decided my ramblings were too good to be kept to myself…..enjoy my musings (and also my first ever blog post) as we head all the way back to the beginning.
